Let’s talk about the heat exchanger in your furnace. Once your heat exchanger gets to be about 20 years old it’s likely to have developed rust. And once you’ve got rust, you’ll end up with cracks and holes in the exchanger.
If the coil is cold, and it’s cold outside, it will start to frost. When this happens the unit will have a period of defrost time. It will make some noises you’re not used to hearing, and you’ll see that steam, but there’s nothing wrong with your unit!
