Why You Shouldn’t See Water Dripping From Here

We know we’ve done this PSA several times over the last few years, but it’s still important: If you see water dripping out of your secondary air conditioner drain, you have a problem!

Water should not be dripping out of this pipe

What The Water Should Do

Your AC system makes a lot of water—probably 10 gallons of water a day in the summer months. This water is supposed to flow down into your sewer drain. You are never supposed to see it.

What The Water Dripping Means

Your system has two drains. One of these is the main drain that leads into your sewer. The other is the overflow drain, which leads to the outside of your house, usually just under your roof eaves. If you ever look outside and see water dripping from a small PVC pipe, that is your secondary AC drain leaking overflow water. This means your main drain is probably clogged up.
