What Should I Set My Thermostat To When I’m Not Home?

Some people ask us how hot they should let the temperature in their house get when they are not home. Maybe they normally keep their house at 74 degrees, but they leave their house at 8 am. How high should they let it go before it’s too high?

Should I Just Turn it Off When I’m Not Home?

And some people ask, “Should I just turn my air conditioner off while I’m gone?” The answer to that is no! When you turn it off, humidity builds up in your house.

We suggest only going 3 to 4 degrees above the temperature you like your house to be at when you’re home, because of the humidity buildup.

During The Winter

In the winter, it’s a little bit of a different story. In the winter you can let your thermostat go way down while you’re not home, probably 8, 9 or even 10 degrees lower. This is because it takes a lot more time to remove humidity with your air conditioning than it does to put heat back into the house in the winter.
