How Long Will My HVAC System Last?

One thing people always want to know is… how long do air conditioners last? How long can you expect yours to last?

Average Lifespan

The HVAC industry estimates the average lifespan of an air conditioner is between 12 to 15 years. We feel like it is closer to 15 years.

Determining Factors

Of course, there are several factors that affect how long your air conditioner will last. How much do you use it? Heavy use, like we usually get here in Texas, will wear it out more quickly. Do you do regular maintenance on your system? Regular maintenance and filter changes will extend the life of your unit.

Gas Furnaces

Gas furnaces typically last longer, around 20 years. Often, if you are replacing a 17-year-old AC system or even a 15-year-old system, you will replace your furnace at the same time. Sometimes that’s not necessary and we can just replace the air conditioning side of your system.
