Water Should Not Be Dripping Out of This Pipe

Water Problems In The Summer

It’s summertime! That means your air conditioner is going to be running a lot. And when your air conditioner is running, it’s going to be making water. Most people don’t realize how much water the air conditioning system makes, but in the summer, when it’s humid, it makes up to 10 gallons of water a day!

That means that this time of year we get a lot of calls for water problems! This is when drains back up.

The Secondary Drain

It’s important for everyone to know that you have a secondary drain, somewhere on the eaves of your house. It’s just a little PVC pipe that sticks out of the eave of your house. If water is coming out of that drain, you should call us, because things aren’t the way they’re supposed to be!

This is Not Normal

Some people think that it’s normal for water to drip from that pipe, and let it drip like that for years. If you’ve seen rust on roofs or ledges, this is why—when you let the water drip like that for years it makes the house rusty where the water comes out of the coil and down onto the house. But that water is supposed to be draining through the main drain. The little PVC pipe under the eaves is just a secondary drain or the emergency drain.

What To If You Do See Water Dripping

So if you see water coming out from under your eaves, call us! That means your main drain is backed up and your emergency drain is trying to drain all that water. We can come out and clear your main drain so that you don’t risk any water damage to your house.
